Antioxidant and Antiplasmodial Activities of Bergenin and 11-O-Galloylbergenin Isolated from Mallotus philippensis.
Two important biologically active compounds were isolated from Mallotus philippensis. The isolated compounds were characterized using spectroanalytical techniques and found to be bergenin (1) and 11-O-galloylbergenin (2). The in vitro antioxidant and antiplasmodial activities of the isolated compounds were determined. For the antioxidant potential, three standard analytical protocols, namely, D...
متن کاملPharmacological and analytical aspects of bergenin: a concise report
Bergenin is a C-glucoside of 4-O-methyl gallic acid is a colourless crystalline polyphenol isolated from medicinal plants like Bergenial crassifolia (B. crassifolia), Mallotus philippinensis (M. philippinensis), Corylopsis spicata (C. spicata), Caesalpinia digyna (C. digyna), Mallotus japonicus (M. japonicus), Sacoglottis gabonensis (S. gabonensis) etc. It is hydrolyzable tannin and an isocouma...
متن کاملCharacteristic properties of Mueller matrices. J. J. Gil
A complete and minimum set of necessary and sufficient conditions for a real 4x4 matrix to be a physical Mueller matrix is obtained. An additional condition is presented to complete the set of known conditions, namely the four conditions obtained from the non-negativity of the eigenvalues of the Hermitian matrix H associated with a Mueller matrix M and the Transmittance Condition. Using the pro...
متن کاملConcentration and retention of chlorophyll around the extrafloral nectary of Mallotus japonicus
Plants need to allocate some of their limited resources for defense against herbivores as well as for growth and reproduction. However, the priority of resource allocation within plants has not been investigated. We hypothesized that plants with extrafloral nectaries (EFNs) invest more chlorophyll around their EFNs-to support a high rate of carbon fixation there-than in other leaf parts of youn...
متن کاملTwo new megastigmane sulphonoglucosides from Mallotus anisopodus.
Phytochemical study of the methanol extract of Mallotus anisopodus led to the isolation of two new megastigmane sulphonoglucosides, namely anisoposides A (1) and B (2), along with junipetrioloside A (3), bergenin (4), os-tocopherol, and N1-methyl-2-pyridone-5-carboxamide. Their structures were deduced by spectroscopic and spectrometric methods including 1D-, 2D-NMR, ESI-MS, and HRESI-MS.
